Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired twice late to take a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
